Freight Forwarding – Shipping to Russia from the UK

Russia is one of the largest countries in the world and is enjoying an ever-growing economy.  These two strengths combined make Russia an excellent choice to ship your UK manufactured goods to.

Once you have found a buyer for your goods in Russia, you will then need to consider how you are going to ship them from the UK.  The most sensible route is to appoint a reputable freight forwarder as shipping to Russia can be complex due to its vast size and strict customs regulations.

Mercator Cargo has been shipping goods on behalf of our clients to Russia for many years and our export team are familiar with procedures when your shipment arrives in Russia.  Our partner agent in Russia (thanks to our affiliation with the global freight forwarding network Marco Polo Line (MPL)) can assist in clearing your shipment through customs and arranging delivery to door if required.

Mercator mainly handles pallet, part container and full container shipping to Russia, but do contact us even if your shipment is smaller, as we may be able to arrange air freight for you, or palletise the shipment.

The majority of the shipping we handle to Russia is via sea freight, but you may wish to consider air freight if the shipment is quite small or urgent.  Sea freight shipping times to Russia is approximately two weeks, whereas air freight is a matter of hours (not including packing, loading, unloading and customs clearance time – give us a call to discuss this in further detail).

So if you are looking for a freight forwarder to handle shipping your goods to Russia, then give the export team a call to discuss your requirements and to obtain a quote – Tel. 02392 756 575. Email: sales@mercatorcargo.co.uk.

Freight Forwarding News – UK Sees Increase in Exports to BRICS

Exports from the UK to BRICS (an abbreviation for the countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) have more than doubled recently.

The Office of National Statistics report export figures to BRICS dramatically rising from £12.7 billion in 2007, to £27.1 billion in 2012.

Exports to Brazil, India, China, Russia and South Africa accounted for 3.34pc in 2007, rising to 5.56pc of the UK’s exports. Compared with 64pc of exports to US and Europe.

If the UK’s export growth to BRICS was similar to the global average (currently 3.7pc), it has been calculated this would equate to an immediate £27 billion boost.

There have been concerns that export growth has been stunted, however, in comparison to other figures, it is argued that UK exports are in line with other exporting countries.

Another string to the UK’s bow is that we are classed as the world’s sixth largest manufacturer.

Export growth in India has risen to £4.67 billion in 2012, from £2.95 billion in 2007.

If you are looking for a freight forwarder to handle you export shipments to any of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China or South Africa), call us today

Russian Port set to Increase Container Handling Capacity

A large investment for Russia’s gateway port, St. Petersburg container terminal has been announced. The investment aims to increase the port’s container handling capacity by twenty percent. The Russian operating company (Global Ports) report that the $120 million investment will also increase the port’s Ro-Ro and automobile services at the terminal, which has seen a large consumer demand for the import and export of vehicles. Global Ports handles thirty percent of Russian port container volumes and twenty-three percent of fuel exports from the country.
