Meet
The Team
Below
are the profiles of Mercator Cargo's Team of Managers, detailing
their particular areas of expertise and experience.
Paul & Julie Goehlert - Directors
Paul
and Julie founded Mercator Cargo Systems in 1992 and the
company was originally based in Southwark, London. The company
relocated to Portsmouth in 1998 and has moved from strength
to strength.
Paul Goehlert - Managing Director
Paul
started his career in International Trade at the age of
18 years old as a ‘Bunker Broker’ for the P&O
Organisation. Through his responsibility for buying the
fuel needed for ships, he developed the skills and knowledge
of business procedures that were essential to the shipping
industry.
His
experience gave him the foundation to acquire proficiency
in the exporting and forwarding department of Morrison Polloxfen
& Blair, and then Abco Shipping, both located in the
thriving business community of the City of London.
Paul
started Mercator in 1991. ‘It was the right time,’
explains Paul, ‘I was in my mid-thirties and had made
sure that I had enough knowledge and experience to run my
own company.’
Recognising
the industry’s trend towards specialist services at
that time, Paul soon established Mercator Cargo as the UK’s
leading forwarder for oriental rugs and carpets.
In
1998 Mercator moved to the South Coast. Paul saw Portsmouth
was an established commercial centre with good transport
links, business support infrastructure and access to major
airports. With the commercial shipping in Portsmouth and
Southampton, businesses that regularly import and export
in the area, and a pool of ready trained shipping personnel,
the move proved to be an excellent business decision.
Now,
through extensive work, contacts and knowledge, Mercator
Cargo can proudly take its place as one of the UK’s
leading exporters to the Middle East and China.
Julie Goehlert - Finance Director
Julie has an extensive background in book-keeping
and finance management and is responsible for ensuring that
all the company finances are monitored and managed efficiently.
Part of her role includes handling all payments in and out
of the organisation including import and export charges.
Julie is also the ‘driving force’ of quality
management at Mercator, ensuring that the organisation runs
smoothly and practices internal efficiency and external
effectiveness for all clients.
Myles
Daly - General Manager
Myles
Daly has extensive experience and knowledge of Information
Technology, specialising in IT service and support. He has
worked for a wide variety of organisations over the years
including DERA – a division of the Ministry of Defence
– where he provided technical support and expertise.
Most recently, Myles managed the installation of computer
systems for the Millennium Dome.
After
identifying a personal need to branch out and explore new
avenues, Myles joined Mercator Cargo in 2000. Not only does
Myles make a valuable contribution to the shipping team
as Export Manager, but he is also responsible for Mercator’s
IT systems.
As
General Manager, he ensures that all shipping traffic is
handled correctly, overseeing the logistics of the process
including arranging transportation, customs declarations,
export quotations and documentation.
Myles
aims to strengthen Mercator Cargo's current service offering
by introducing new parts of the world as accessible shipping
regions to clients, and extending the client base.
Keith Anderson - Operations Assistant
Keith
joined Mercator Cargo in November 2005 and brings a wealth
of Freight Forwarding and logistic knowledge, having worked
in the industry for many years. The main reason Keith joined
Mercator was to increase his skill base and try something
different, Keith says "I wanted to try a diffirent
approach to Freight Forwarding and I really liked the work
ethic and atmosphere at Mercator, I think I will enjoy working
as part of the team" we are delighted Keith has chosen
to join the team at Mercator.
Mark Randall
Mark
joined Mercator in July 2007 and brings a wealth of knowledge
with him, welcome to the team Mark, we are very happy you
have decided to join us! Mark moved from the midlands to
the Isle of Wight recently, and wanted to join a company
