Importing Freight from Pakistan
Freight forwarder Mercator handles import shipments from Pakistan on a weekly basis. Our freight services cover both sea freight and air freight from Pakistan. Thanks to our founding membership of the freight forwarder network ‘MPL’, we have a reliable agent based in Pakistan who can assist with your shipment at origin.
Our import freight services from Pakistan can cover a complete door to door shipping process. From your supplier’s door in Pakistan through to your door in the UK. The level of service you require for your import will depend on the INCOTERM (or buying term) that you have agreed with your supplier. If you have agreed EXW (ex works) then we will arrange to pick up the goods from your supplier and handle the export customs via our agent in Pakistan. For a FOB (free on board) term your supplier will get the goods to the vessel, we will then handle the sea or air freight and the rest of the process to import into the UK. If you have agreed a CIF (cost insurance freight) or CFR (cost and freight) your supplier will be responsible for the freight, we will arrange the UK customs clearance and delivery.
A word of warning if you are importing an LCL (less than container load) shipment from Pakistan, we often see highly inflated ‘co-loader’ charges on the goods once they have arrived in the UK. These are payable by the importer (i.e. you) and the goods cannot be released without full payment. The simple explanation for this is the supplier in Pakistan has nominated a UK agent to receive the goods, who will bill these charges to you and share them with the supplier in Pakistan. In order to avoid such charges we highly recommend using a FOB term when importing less than container loads from Pakistan. By choosing FOB, we will be able to advise the UK handling charges at the start, which are always much more reasonable than if you get stung by the ‘import service fees’ for choosing to include the freight with the purchase of the goods.
Our Pakistan import services cover all industries including textiles, foodstuffs, sportswear and crafts. Our import services from Pakistan cover pallets through to full container loads, and includes the major ports in Pakistan including Port Qasim and Karachi. Transit times via sea freight to the UK from Pakistan is around 25-30 days (plus time either side for loading, unloading and customs clearance). Air freight takes less than a day (plus time for handling and clearance), but is more expensive than sea freight. Air freight is a great option if you are short on time, but be aware that charges are based on volume and weight, so if you have a bulky or heavy consignment it could be rather expensive.
Once your goods have arrived in the UK, we will arrange to pay any import VAT & duty on your behalf to HMRC, and complete the necessary paperwork in order to clear the goods through customs. We will then arrange for your shipment to be delivered to your door anywhere in the UK.
