Importing from South Korea

UK based freight forwarder Mercator regularly assists a number of clients with their importing from South Korea.  Our team handles both sea and air freight for importing from South Korea, from a single pallet to multiple shipping container loads.

We were recently tasked with an LCL shipment for importing from South Korea by the UK importer.  They had purchased the goods, which were skin products, on the incoterm FOB (free on board).  This meant that their supplier in South Korea handled the packing, export customs in Korea and transport to the port for shipping to the UK.

Inside a shipping container, pallets are stacked for importing from South Korea into the UK

Once the pallets were loaded into the shared shipping container and placed on the sea freight vessel, the responsibility and risk passed to the UK importer.  Mercator’s team arranged the ocean freight, settled the UK co-loader charges in the UK, completed UK customs clearance and coordinated the delivery to door.

For LCL shipments from the Far East, we recommend agreeing to purchase goods under FOB, it gives you more transparency with costs once the goods arrive in the UK and greater control of the shipment.  Thanks to our founding membership of the global freight forwarder network MarcoPoloLine, we have a very strong relationship with our partner agent based in Seoul.  As such, we are able to provide our customers in the UK a comprehensive service when it comes to importing from South Korea, offering shipping on all incoterms, including EXW.
