Our Director, George, recently handled the sea freight shipment of some out of gauge machinery for export to the USA from the UK. The machinery was over height, and due to the nature of the cargo, a 40’ flat rack shipping container was selected to suit the machine and loading possibilities.
Our customer in the UK had sold the machine on a CIF basis, which means they (as the shipper) were responsible for the transit up to the port in the USA (Charleston).
The UK exporter asked Mercator to arrange the loading and lashing of the container to the flat rack to ensure the safe export to USA of the machine. Our export team also dealt with the UK export customs clearance, delivery of the flat rack to Southampton port in time to catch the selected vessel, and the sea freight to the USA. Typically, sea freight between the UK and Charleston USA is around 10 days port to port.

Once in the USA, the US importer (in conjunction with their freight forwarder) took over the risk and responsibility of the rest of the journey to door. Thanks to our membership of MarcoPoloLine – a worldwide network of freight forwarder offices – we are even able to handle such a shipment to door in the USA (on DAP or DDP basis).
If you have a shipment for export to USA from the UK, get in touch with our team to request a quote. We handle out of gauge, general dry cargo in standard containers, refrigerated shipments and LCL (less than container load) shipments. If you are in a hurry, we even offer air freight to the USA.
