UK based freight forwarder Mercator regularly handles shipping containers from China on behalf of UK importers. The team at Mercator were recently tasked with the shipment of four full 40’ shipping containers from Shenzhen port to door in the UK.
Mercator’s customer purchased the goods from the supplier in China on FOB (free on board) incoterm, meaning that Mercator handled the process from the moment that the shipping containers from China were loaded onto the sea freight vessel in Shenzhen through to door in the UK.

Once the shipping containers from China arrived at Felixstowe port, our import team arranged the customs clearance, settled the UK landside charges with the shipping line, completed the necessary payments/deferment lodgings for import VAT and duties with HMRC, and handled deliveries to the customer.
As a UK importer, FOB is a popular incoterm as the export formalities in China are handled by the seller of the goods, along with arranging for the goods to be loaded into the shipping containers from China. Thanks to our founding membership of the global freight forwarder network, MarcoPoloLine, our team can handle shipments from China on any incoterm, including EXW (ex-works) in conjunction with our partner agent based in Shanghai.
