Mercator’s import team recently completed importing from South Korea of stainless steel tubes. The goods were purchased on CFR (cost and freight) incoterms, meaning the exporter in South Korea was responsible for the export process in Korea, delivery to Busan port, and sea freight to the UK.
Once the shipping container arrived at Southampton port in the UK, the risk and responsibility transferred to the UK importer. In conjunction with our team, we completed the process of importing from South Korea, including settling the shipping line UK side fees, unloading the container from the vessel (LOLO), customs clearance and delivery to door.
The goods were long stainless steel tubes, due to the nature of the cargo, the importer was unable to unload at the delivery site, therefore our team arranged for the goods to be devanned at the port and delivered on a suitable vehicle.
There are weekly sailings from Busan, South Korea to the UK, with direct options available. Sea freight from South Korea to the UK takes 38-45 days depending on routing and ports of call along the way.
In this instance, our team just handled the UK side of importing from South Korea (under CFR incoterms), however we are able to handle a full door to door service (on EXW incoterm) or from port in South Korea (FOB) thanks to our founding membership of MarcoPoloLine.
