Mercator’s export team recently arranged the sea freight to Australia of two 40’ high cube shipping containers on a door to door basis.
We were instructed by our UK based customer who had sold the goods to a company in Australia on DDP (delivery duty paid) incoterm. Shipping on DDP terms meant that the UK exporter was responsible for the entire journey from door in the UK to door in Australia.
Our team therefore handled the positioning of the shipping containers at the load site, trucking to the port for export (Southampton), UK export customs clearance and sea freight to Australia. Once the containers arrived at the port in Australia, our local partner agent (thanks to our founding membership of the freight forwarder network MarcoPoloLine) dealt with the clearance formalities and arranged the final delivery to door in Melbourne.

Transit time for sea freight to Australia varies according to routing and ports of call, in this instance, it took 57 days port to port (from Southampton, UK to Melbourne, Australia). Vessel sailing schedules usually have 2-3 days cut-off time before departure, plus once your shipping container arrives at destination you will need to account for a few days for manifest, customs clearance, and delivery booking. Sea freight to Australia can therefore be achieved in approximately 65 days door to door.
Our freight services to Australia include LCL (less than container load) sea freight, FCL (full container loads) and air freight. Similarly, we can arrange shipments from Australia in conjunction with our partner agent who we have been working alongside for many years now.
