Sea freight to Costa Rica

Freight forwarder Mercator’s export team recently handled a full container of soft drinks for sea freight to Costa Rica from the UK.  The UK exporter, also manufacturer, sold the goods to the company in Costa Rica on a CFR (cost and freight) incoterm, meaning that they were responsible for the shipment up to the sea freight port in Costa Rica.

Our team therefore handled UK export customs, delivery of the shipping container for loading, haulage to London Gateway port, VGM (verified gross mass) and sea freight to Costa Rica, Puerto Limon.  There are weekly sailings from the major UK ports to Costa Rica, transit time is around 28 days port to port.

Once the sea freight to Costa Rica was complete, and the shipping container arrived at Puerto Limon, the goods became the responsibility of the buying company in Costa Rica to complete customs clearance and delivery to door.

Although in this case Mercator did not handle the leg to door (on either DDP or DAP), we are able to assist with this as we have a long standing relationship with our partner agent based in San Jose.  With this contact locally, we are able to assist our customers with customs clearances, documentation, and local deliveries in Costa Rica.

Whether you have a full shipping container load, a less than container load (LCL) or air freight to Costa Rica from the UK, Mercator’s team can handle the whole process for you.  You can contact the team by calling (+44) 02392 756 575, emailing sales@mercatorcargo.co.uk or completing the form below and we will be in touch.
